terms of service
Last updated: April 20, 2026 · Phase A (alpha)
Anamnesis is a memory service for AI assistants, built by SMTRY. These terms describe the deal between you and us when you use it. We've kept them short and written them in plain English — because nobody should need a lawyer to sign up for something this simple.
Our core promise. We will never sell your memories. We will never use them to train an AI model. We will never read them for marketing. If you ask us to delete your data, we will.
01What Anamnesis is
Anamnesis stores notes, conversations, and other content that your AI tools send us on your behalf. When you ask the AI to recall something, we return the relevant pieces. That's the whole product.
You give Anamnesis an API key or a connector URL, paste it into a Claude session or another compatible tool, and the tool starts writing to your memory. The data that flows through is yours. We're the filing cabinet, not the owner.
02Acceptable use
Please don't use Anamnesis to:
- Store or transmit anything illegal where you live or where our servers live.
- Impersonate someone else, or claim to represent a company you don't.
- Try to break the service — vulnerability probing, DoS, credential stuffing, cryptocurrency mining, or anything designed to consume another person's account.
- Store content that sexualizes minors, glorifies real-world violence, or violates intellectual-property law. We will cooperate with law enforcement when we receive a valid, narrowly-scoped request.
- Auto-generate or scrape memories at a rate that overwhelms the service. Ask us if you want to do this at volume — there's probably a way.
03Your account
You need to be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we learn a user is younger, we'll delete the account.
You're responsible for keeping your API key and password private. If someone signs in as you because you pasted the key in a public Slack, that is on you. If someone signs in as you because of a bug on our end, that is on us.
Each human gets one account. You can connect as many clients (Claude Desktop, claude.ai, Claude Code, etc.) as you want to the same account.
04Your data, your content
Everything you store in Anamnesis — episodes, echoes, engrams, notes — belongs to you. We store it so we can serve it back to you. We don't claim ownership, we don't re-license it, we don't resell it.
You can export or delete your data at any time from the dashboard. Deletion is permanent — we don't keep a hidden backup. Server-side backups age out on a rolling 30-day window.
05What we don't do with your data
- We don't train AI models on your memories. Not ours, not anyone else's.
- We don't sell your data. Ever. There's no third-party data broker in this picture.
- We don't read your data for marketing. No aggregate "top topics" reports. No lookalike audiences.
- We don't use your data to improve the service for other users. Your memories shape your retrievals only.
For the full technical picture — encryption, key derivation, retention windows — see the privacy policy.
06Paying (eventually)
Anamnesis is in Phase A — alpha. It's free to use while we shake out the friends-test cohort. When we launch paid tiers, existing users will get notice before anything changes. No surprise charges.
07Service availability
This is an alpha. The service may go down. Data may be lost if we have an infrastructure failure before the paid tier ships with proper SLAs. We run daily backups and we take this seriously, but you should treat your Anamnesis memory as a nice-to-have, not a source of truth for your business — at least until we're out of alpha.
08Warranty disclaimer
Anamnesis is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, bug-free, or that every retrieval will return exactly what you expected.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
09Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SMTRY and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of Anamnesis. This includes lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or substitute services — whether based on contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if we've been advised of the possibility.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you've paid us in the prior 12 months or US $50.
10Indemnification
If a third party brings a claim against us because of something you did with Anamnesis — violating these terms, violating the law, infringing someone's rights — you agree to defend us and cover the resulting damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees.
11Termination
You can close your account any time from /dashboard. We can suspend or close an account if the user breaks these terms, if we receive a valid legal demand, or if we wind down the service. If we wind down, we'll give 30 days' notice where possible and give you a window to export your data.
12Changes
We may update these terms as Anamnesis evolves — especially at the Phase A → Phase B transition (paid launch). For material changes, we'll email you at the address on file and update the "last updated" date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
13Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where SMTRY is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes go to courts of competent jurisdiction in that state, except where local consumer-protection law grants you different rights.
